Automated Garbage Collection or a NEW TAX

All residents are invited to a Public Meeting on May 17, 2010 at 7:30 PM to voice their opinions about the Automated Garbage Collection service or what I call a NEW TAX.

The garbage collection rates will go up 20 to 30%. This is based on what other communities like Cranberry Twp., Pine and Marshall Townships are paying for their "Automated Garbage Collection". If that is not a NEW TAX, I don't know what is. SENIORS WILL PAY THE LARGEST INCREASE IN THE FORM OF A BASE FEE OF ABOUT $15 PER MONTH.
PLUS THE PER BAG COST, THE SAME AS THEY PAY NOW.

McCandless Twp. is considering the Automated Trash Collection system and accepting the $500,000 Grant but they do not want to pay any more than 8% above their current rate of $17.62 per month (we pay $14.69 per month) and that is what they have written to DEP as a condition of accepting the $500,000 Grant. $17.62 + 8% = $19.03 or a $4.34 per month increase for us in Franklin Park.

You have to buy your garbage can for household waste for $35 to $52 depending upon the size. You have to pay 10% of the cost of the Recycling Garbage Can and the Yard Waste Can. That would add another $10 to your purchase price.
ANOTHER ADDITIONAL TAX.

You have to store THREE TRASH CANS IN YOUR GARAGE/SHED OR OUTSIDE.

DURING SNOW, IT WILL PRESENT SPECIAL PROBLEMS UNIQUE TO EVERYONE'S SITUATION WITH THEIR DRIVEWAY, SLOPE AND ROAD.

There are 68 Private Lanes in the Borough and there will be special arrangements for garbage collection in these lanes and who will pay the additional cost - us.

I am firmly opposed to this NEW TAX specially after we have imposed the $52 Local Service Tax this year. The gas prices are creeping up thereby imposing a hidden tax and the North Allegheny School Board is getting ready to raise taxes in June, 2010 because they don't have enough money to make pension contributions!!!

AND THANKS TO OUR SOLICITOR, MR. IRA WEISS AND HIS LAWSUIT AGAINST ALLEGHENY COUNTY THAT THE COUNTY IS REASSESSING OUR PROPERTIES. YOU MUST HAVE ALREADY RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE COUNTY CHECKING ON THE SIZE OF YOUR HOUSE. SINCE OUR HOUSES HAVE APPRECIATED SINCE 2002 OUR ASSESSMENTS WILL SURELY GO UP NEXT YEAR AND SO WILL OUR COUNTY, BOROUGH AND SCHOOL TAXES.
